Keeping Active
Keeping active is a great way to get healthier and more independent.
It will:
-
help you manage stress
-
help you sleep better
-
give you more energy
-
make you stronger
-
give you a confidence boost
-
help you keep up with friends and family.
How can I keep active?
Keeping active doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym or taking up a sport – it can be just making simple changes to your daily routine.
Why not try:
-
walking or cycling, maybe to work, to a friend's house or at lunchtime. A good brisk walk will give your heart and lungs a good workout!
-
gardening or DIY.
-
shopping or cleaning the house.
-
taking the stairs instead of the lift and walking up escalators.
-
swimming, cycling or dancing.
-
getting off the bus one stop early.
-
going to the gym, do an exercise or aerobics class.
-
walking or rambling in the park or in the countryside.
How much should I do?
To really help, the activity should get you slightly out of breath and last about 30 minutes. Adults should be active at least five times a week.
