The tell-tales signs of  abuse

The tell-tale signs of abuse can vary depending on the type of abuse, but there are some common signs. These include things like:

  • Changes in behaviour - the person may be withdrawn, angry or depressed.
  • Changes in appearance - the person may be wearing the same clothes, or not washing or putting on make-up.
  • Changes in routine or lifestyle - they may stop going out, refuse to let visitors in or say they can't afford something.
  • Seeking the company of more people than usual - they may feel unsafe without people around.
  • Being frightened when someone in particular comes into the room.
  • Making sure you know everything is OK - they overemphasise that everything is normal.

If you see any of these signs, you should talk to them to see if you can help.

You can call the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Safeguarding Partnership helpline. |

We will make sure that you and the person concerned gets the help they need.
